Hop Along! Explore Matakana to Snells Beach
Dust off you bunny outfits for our Easter Sunday Explore Paddle on 21 April.
From historic Matakana our route will take us down river with the tide to the estuary at Sandspit. Passing this little seaside settlement with it's old style kiwi baches we’ll enter Kawau Bay, finishing our river to ocean paddle at Snells Beach. This is a beautiful paddle starting with the narrow, meandering Matakana River and opening out into Kawau Bay and views to Kawau Island.
Beginning to end our route is around 9km which will feelers with the outgoing tide. If 9km still sounds a long way, there’s an option to leave the water at Sandspit (approx 4.5km). We'll find time off the waer to relax and connect and grab some refreshments (possibly lunch) at Snells Beach. All the logistics, timings and booking details are here or via our Facebook Event.
To Explore with us costs $40 if you use your own board, paddle and PFD or $55 if you'd like us to supply equipment for you. Or use your SUPWell 5 or 10 class pass if you have one. Booking is essential.
We'll meet at Snells Beach at 7:45am and return to Snell'sBeach by 11am so you can make a day of it around the Matakana coast with the many and varied attractions in the area: Matakana, Goat Island, boutique wineries, Brick Bay Sculpture Trail, explore Tāwharanui Peninsula. Or join us for a coffee or early lunch at a local Snells Beach cafe.
Join our rabbit eared paddling procession from Matakana to Snells Beach. There may well be an oval prize for the best dressed Easter bunny.
